The countdown is on. It’s been two whole years since NAB 2020 was cancelled, along with many other industry trade shows and events. But fingers crossed, we’re finally back and heading to Las Vegas April 23- 27, where we hope to meet many familiar faces and get to know new ones.
However, the show will have changed in the aftermath of the pandemic. Not just practically, where there will likely be fewer attendees from outside North America than expected, but in the themes of the exhibits themselves.
Every piece of technology, every investment decision hinges on its applicability to business continuity, agility, and value for money. Many of the remote and hybrid workflow scenarios forced on media and entertainment these last couple of years have proven their worth in productivity, greater efficiency, sustainability, and improved work-life balance.
CTOs will be walking the show floor at NAB to learn more about the distributed production systems that worked – and those that didn’t – to upgrade, modify or cement the technologies they already have in place.
Security issues haven’t gone away, but neither did internet-connected cloud-hosted workflows – many of which were set up virtually overnight – appear to flood the industry with data leaks and piracy. Cloud storage and remote collaborative networking on premium projects can be rock solid and even the first option for redundancy.
Other trends which have taken root in recent months include camera to cloud – a means of making rushes shot on location or in a studio accessible for creative decision making by colorists or editors just seconds after the shoot. Already being used by some productions in Hollywood, we expect this workflow to mature and eventually become the norm, collapsing time between set and post and saving productions money on expensive reshoots, among other benefits.
LucidLink will highlight many exciting partnerships at NAB 2022. We’ll host exciting conversations in our theater with some of our favorite customers like WebMD and strategic partners, Adobe and IBM. You’ll get to see LucidLink Filespaces in action, as a video editor from WebMD will be onsite, working live on media projects using LucidLink and her favorite NLE tools. In our booth, you’ll experience real-time workflows with integration partners, Telestream, Cinedeck, Cloud SoDa, and more.
