According to the Channel Futures MSP 501 2019 Cloud Report, security was undeniably referred to as one of the most substantial cloud trends, with service providers considering security as both a significant opportunity as well as a challenge. As modern organizations move to the cloud, security without a doubt has become one of the most pressing concerns and issues they face. MSPs are seeking new technologies and emerging trends to stay secure and satisfy customers.
How secure is your data going to the cloud? Are you a little worried? You should be because there is a cause for concern. Organizations are continually moving data to cost-effective storage options in the cloud. According to a survey by AllCloud, 2020 Cloud Infrastructure Report,
As companies move to the cloud, so does their sensitive information. How secure is that information? In a study from McAfee, “Enterprise Supernova: The Data Dispersion Cloud Adoption and Risk Report”, 1,000 enterprises across 11 countries were polled. In addition, anonymous data from 30 million enterprise cloud users were cited. According to the report, there is a new era of data protection on the horizon:
And as intercloud travel opens new paths to risk:
More Sensitive Data in the Cloud, 91% Do not Encrypt Data at Rest
The McAfee report sited that more than a quarter (26%) of the files analyzed in the cloud now contain sensitive data, with a substantial increase of 23% year over year. However, security for this data does not meet the market growth. Of the cloud services analyzed, 91% do not encrypt data at rest, while one in five respondents said they lacked visibility into what data resides in their cloud applications.
LucidLink: Data Encrypted in Transit and at Rest
LucidLink has taken a unique approach to data security. As one of our key pillars in architecting Filespaces, LucidLink completely encrypts all data to offer the highest degree of confidentiality. LucidLink employs a “Zero-Knowledge” encryption model using AES 256. What does this mean to users? This means that your data is safe. LucidLink’s security model uses robust end-to-end, full-system encryption where all data is encrypted on the customer device and remains encrypted both in transit and at rest with only the customer in possession of the encryption keys – neither LucidLink nor the storage provider can “see” the data.
“Security is almost everybody’s number one concern today. LucidLink’s model of customers holding the keys along with built-in transit and at-rest encryption is really key.” — Temple Murphy, District IT Manager, Community High School District 128, Vernon Hills, IL
LucidLink Filespaces for Production Workloads
Considering moving workloads to the cloud? LucidLink enables object storage to be deployed for production applications as general use file storage that performs like a local disk. Organizations gain the cost benefits of cloud object storage while retaining the performance of an on-premises NAS. Also, Filespaces enables companies to stream files on demand, making it ideal for distributed teams and workflows collaborating on a common data set. Filespaces enables companies to scale remote users securely. Concerned about getting data to and from the cloud safely? Try a 14-day free trial of Filepaces, and your worries will disappear.
